Middle East Studies Association (MESA) Conferece
Boston, United States 21-24 November, 2009.
In 2009, the Griffith Islamic Research Unit and the Key centre for Ethics, law, Jstice and Governance awarded me funding to attend the MESA Conference in Boston. I was therefore able to spend three weeks in the United States presenting papers in Chicago, New York and Washington in addition to my time at MESA.

In 2009, TAARI, along with key institues at University of Chicago University and Columbia University granted me the funds to tral domestically within the United States in order to present guest lectures on the destruction of Iraq's cultural history in Chicago and New York.
Australian Research Council Australian Postdoctoral Fellowship Application Award
Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, La Trobe Univerity
In 2009, I won a significant bursary from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at La Trobe University in order to submit an application to the Australian Research Council for a Discovery Project and an Australian Postdoctoral Fellowship. Such awards are highly competitive and, if successful, an ARC APD Fellowship is a very prestigious award.

In early 2008 I received additional funding from the Centre for Public Culture and Ideas (CPCI) in order to present a paper at each of the AMIC, OCIS and APSA Conferences. This kind of funding can be highly competitive and I was fortunate to receive such support. It is an excellent opportunity for me to present to and learn from some of the leading scholars in the field.

As of mid-2005, I have been the recipient of a Griffith University Postgraduate Research Scholarship (GUPRS). This has not only allowed me to become a full-time student, but also afforded me the financial luxury of eschewing outside work in favour of focusing on my research.
International Conference Travel Grant (Jordan)
Second World Congress for Middle Eastern Studies (WOCMES-2)
Amman, Jordan 11-16 June, 2006.
In early-2006, I won a Griffith University International Conference Travel Grant in order to attend the Second World Congress for Middle Eastern Studies (WOCMES-2) in Amman, Jordan 11-16 June. This was awarded based on the strength of my application, as well as the support of my Supervisor and School. I was therefore able to spend three weeks in Jordan, researching and presenting the paper: Engaging Mesopotamia's "Primitive Democracy": Re-thinking the Democratisation of the Middle East.
Adel Iskandar Master Class (University of Western Sydney)

In August 2006, the University of Western Sydney invited me to take part in a Master Class with Adel Iskandar entitled Media, Culture and Diaspora: The Arab Case. The Centre for Cultural Research at the University of Western Sydney funded my trip.
Tony Bennett Master Class (University of South Australia)
27 – 28 November, 2006
In November 2006, the University of South Australia invited me to take part in a Master Class with Professor Tony Bennett entitled Culture and Governance: Institutions, Practices and Policies. The University of South Australia funded my trip, utilising their funding from the Australian Research Council Cultural Research Network for Postgraduate and Early Career Research Development.
